As part of a master planning effort for the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital Campus in Chicago, Illinois, the team of consultants (U.S. Equities, Perkins + Will, KLOA, Inc., and others) were asked to evaluate the redevelopment of the former Cook County Hospital building and develop improvements to the existing campus. KLOA, Inc.’s role was to provide traffic engineering and parking planning assistance on the project.
In this capacity, KLOA, Inc. conducted traffic, parking and pedestrian counts to document existing travel patterns, and performed traffic analyses at surrounding intersections and garage drives. The study concluded with a KLOA, Inc. recommendation for an additional 800 spaces in the parking garage, improved and safer pedestrian ways, the relocation of emergency vehicles to a private entrance, the creation of a new main campus entrance with a new traffic signal, and new traffic and pedestrian circulation routes on the campus.
