Kenig, Lindgren, O’Hara, Aboona, Inc. (KLOA, Inc.) was retained as part of the Houseal Lavigne Associates team to update the Comprehensive Plan for the Village of River Forest. KLOA, Inc. prepared the transportation component of the plan, which comprised an evaluation of the community’s existing transportation system and a Transportation Plan of improvements to address system deficiencies. The plan is multi-modal and addresses all elements of the transportation system, including the roadway network, public transit system, freight rail, bicycle and pedestrian system, and parking. KLOA, Inc. also prepared a Bicycle Plan for the Village as part of the project.

Elements of the transportation plan include collaboration with IDOT on design alternatives for North Avenue and upgraded crosswalks at signalized intersections, the replacement of uncontrolled intersections with a form of stop sign control, the introduction of sustainable transportation options (car share, electric vehicle charging stations), pedestrian safety enhancements near the Metra station, collaboration with Pace on a local circulator shuttle and future PULSE BRT service, freight train quiet zones and traffic control/lighting/sight line/aesthetic improvements to the railroad viaducts, bicycle connections to the Illinois Prairie Path and Des Plaines River Trail, and implementation of the bicycle network plan.
