KLOA, Inc. performed a parking demand study for the Greektown district in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district is a dining and nightlife destination centered along Halsted Street and contains a hotel, Mariano’s Fresh Market, multifamily residential buildings, and the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center. Parking is very limited in the district both on the street and in off-street lots, and most restaurants utilize valet parking.
KLOA, Inc. performed parking occupancy surveys over a 9-block area during peak activity times (Fridays and Saturdays) in the district to evaluate the adequacy of the parking supply in accommodating the peak demand. The study determined that on-street parking was near-fully utilized throughout the day. Peak demand in the off-street lots occurs during the weekday lunch period and on Friday evenings. Parking opportunities were more widely available on Saturday. The client utilized the data to work with the City of Chicago on a parking solution for the district.
