KLOA, Inc. was retained by the Village of La Grange to evaluate traffic operations at the intersection of 47th Street and East Avenue. Both 47th Street and East Avenue are higher-volume, multilane roadways and the intersection of these roads is under all-way stop sign control. Intersection operations are further impacted by the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, which crosses the south and west legs of the intersection.
Based on KLOA, Inc.’s analyses and evaluation, it was recommended that the intersection be signalized and interconnected with the rail crossing signals. KLOA, Inc. prepared preliminary geometric plans that called for road widening and geometric modifications, and developed a preliminary traffic signal layout that called for pre-signals on the west and south legs. The scope included close coordination with the Village, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Illinois Commerce Commission.
